Understanding how land animals can underpin the functioning of ecosystems is what motivates my science. In 2021, I completed a Master of Geospatial Science at Curtin University where I examined DJI Phantom 4 drone imagery of Dirk Hartog Island, Western Australia to determine the ecosystem engineering impacts of two threatened macropod species on rangeland plants. My PhD aims to extend this research to uncover the potential effect termites might have as ecosystem engineers on agricultural yields in African savanna landscapes. Namely, whether termite activity could influence changes to soils, hydrophobicity, bulk-density, and nutrient cycling. I believe understanding these feedbacks across land-use gradients is incredibly important for an earth undergoing climate change. Complementary to my academic pursuits, I have worked within the private industry for 5 years, my recent position being a Geospatial Consultant across a number of applied conservation projects.
