I'm a broadly interested ecologist working somewhere at the intersection of large mammal ecology, conservation biology, global change and ecosystem functioning. Most of my research focuses on how large animals influence plant diversity and community composition, vegetation structure, nutrient cycling, and carbon storage, but I’m also interested in the drivers of animal space use and how global change pressures alter vegetation dynamics and ecosystem functioning across spatial scales. To address these questions, I use a range of approaches, including observational and experimental fieldwork, meta-analysis and remote sensing. Ultimately, I am interested in understanding when, where, and how biodiversity loss or recovery - for example through to restoration or rewilding - meaningfully alters ecosystem processes, and how this knowledge can help inform conservation and decision-making.
